“I’m Alberta Bound”

Well bright and early Wednesday morning I piled into the beach van along with 6 other girls, headed to Breakforth 2010 in Edmonton.  Linnea, who is the beach team leader, is also heavily involved with Breakforth, so the Beach team, along Karissa, Julliene, Kassie and myself were on our way to help out.

As we were driving I was going through all of the songs on my iPod, because I knew that I would be doing one of the driving shifts that day and so I was making a playlist to listen to.  I have an iTrip which lets me listen to my iPod through the car stereo which is why I was doing this.  As I was going through my music I came across the country song titled “Alberta Bound”.  It was kinda funny because we were in fact Alberta bound.  The words to the song are about a trucker coming up from the states back into Alberta, but that’s beside the point.  You don’t have to be a trucker coming up from the states to appreciate what the song is saying.  The chorus to the song goes as follows:

“This piece of heaven that I've found
Rocky Mountains and black fertile ground
Everything I need beneath that big blue sky
Doesn't matter where I go
This place will always be my home
Yeah I've been Alberta bound for all my life
And I'll be Alberta bound until I die”

This song really means a lot to me, not because I’m from Alberta, but rather that I’m not from Alberta.  My mom is, so I’ve spent many weeks in Alberta over my life visiting family.  I fell in love with the beautiful open wide open space that is Alberta back when I was about 8 years old.  I’ve never understood why Alberta just draws me to it, but for some reason I must have inherited the Albertan blood.  Alberta is such a beautiful province and I’m not ashamed to say, even though I’m from Ontario, if I could live anywhere in Canada, I would pick Alberta.  I gave my heart away to Alberta a long time ago and I’ve never regretted that decision once.  I may not see Alberta very often, but something deep down inside of me sings along as the song plays..."I’ll be Alberta bound for all my life, I’ll be Alberta bound till I die."
